Stella Gibbons is the author of twenty-five novels, three volumes of short stories, and four volumes of poetry. Her first novel \u003ci\u003eCold Comfort Farm\u003c\/i\u003e (1932) was an immediate success and won the Femina Vie Heureuse Prize for 1933. Among her works are \u003ci\u003eNightingale Wood\u003c\/i\u003e (1938), \u003ci\u003eThe Bachelor \u003c\/i\u003e(1944), \u003ci\u003eWestwood \u003c\/i\u003e(1946),  and \u003ci\u003eStarlight \u003c\/i\u003e(1967). She was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in 1950.
