Almost a decade later, with the outbreak of a new, stigmatized disease replete with mystifications and punitive metaphors, Sontag wrote \u003ci\u003eAids and Its Metaphors\u003c\/i\u003e, extending the argument of the earlier book to the AIDS pandemic.\u003c\/div\u003e\u003ch4\u003eAutorenportrait\u003c\/h4\u003e\u003cdiv\u003eSusan Sontag was born in Manhattan in 1933 and studied at the universities of Chicago, Harvard and Oxford. Her non-fiction works include \u003ci\u003eOn Photography\u003c\/i\u003e, \u003ci\u003eRegarding the Pain of Others\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eAt the Same Time. \u003c\/i\u003eShe was also the author of four novels, including \u003ci\u003eThe Volcano Lover\u003c\/i\u003e and \u003ci\u003eIn America,\u003c\/i\u003e as well as a collection of stories and several plays. She was awarded the Jerusalem Prize, and received the Prince of Asturias Prize for Literature and the Peace Prize of the German Book Trade.
