nomadic-europe-lukasz-moll
Nomadic Europe (Lukasz Moll)

The idea of Europe was always thought of from its borders. From the voyages of Princess Europa and Herodotus' geographical delineations of Europe in antiquity up to the disputes on the "Others" of Europe and the criteria of belonging to European civilisation, the reflection on Europe and borders went hand in hand. Today, when European borders undergo profound and turbulent transformations, the question comes back: How is Europe conceived from its new borders? Borders are not only dislocated, multiplying and diffused, but they also change their shapes: They become walled or inscribed in the bodies of migrants, racialised in public discourses, and offshored to neighbouring countries. The monograph follows these metamorphoses to demonstrate how they reshape the contours of Europe as a political community. With the help of poststructuralist philosophy, it uncovers the parallel formation of many Europes that bring back the promise of European universalism: freedom and equality for all.

Autorenportrait

Lukasz Moll is a philosopher and sociologist, and Assistant Professor at the Institute of Sociology, University of Wroclaw (Poland).
