Renowned for co-founding the Négritude movement, Césaire was a pioneer in surrealist poetry. His achievements as a writer were recognised worldwide with awards including the International Nâzim Hikmet Poetry Award, the Laporte Prize, the Viareggio-Versilia Prize for Literature, and the Grand Prix National de Poésie; in 2002, he was made Commander of the Order of Merit of Cote d'Ivoire. His works include the plays \u003ci\u003eA Tempest \u003c\/i\u003e(1969) and \u003ci\u003eA Season in the Congo \u003c\/i\u003e(1966)\u003ci\u003e, \u003c\/i\u003ethe searing political essay \u003ci\u003eDiscourse on Colonialism \u003c\/i\u003e(1956)\u003ci\u003e, \u003c\/i\u003eand the long poem \u003ci\u003eReturn to My Native Land \u003c\/i\u003e(1950)\u003ci\u003e, \u003c\/i\u003edubbed \"nothing less than the greatest lyrical monument of this time\" (Andre Breton).\n\u003cb\u003eJohn Berger\u003c\/b\u003e was born in London in 1926. His acclaimed works of both fiction and non-fiction include the seminal \u003ci\u003eWays of Seeing \u003c\/i\u003eand the novel \u003ci\u003eG.\u003c\/i\u003e, which won the Booker Prize in 1972. In 1962 he left Britain permanently, to live in a small village in the French Alps.  He died in 2017.\n\u003cb\u003eJason Allen-Paisant\u003c\/b\u003e.
