Galanterie, Kolonialismus und Orientalismus (Stephan Kraft)

This interdisciplinary volume is the first to systematically examine the close entanglement between Galant culture and colonial, proto-Orientalist discourses around 1700. It examines objects, images, texts, and courtly festivals and ceremonies to reveal the ambivalent construct of the cultural Other in the Galant context, revealing that Galant style was a central medium of early modern globalization processes.
