»Conflicts of Interest in the Legal Profession. Criminal and Professional Law Risks, Exemptions and Reform Proposals«: The thesis addresses the problem area of conflicts of interest in the legal profession, in particular the criminal offence of betrayal of client under 356 StGB and the prohibition against representing conflicting interests under 43a(4) BRAO. The author develops a new, systematically sound concept of protected interests and a coherent, legally secure interpretation concept. Finally, reform proposals are evaluated and recommendations for a legislative redesign of the offence are formulated.

Uli Schönhöfer studied law at the University of Passau from 2015 to 2021 as a scholarship-holder of the Deutschlandstipendium. Following his first legal state examination in 2021, he completed his legal clerkship at the Higher Regional Court of Nuremberg and passed his second legal state examination in 2023. He has been working as a lawyer since 2024. He completed his doctorate in 2025.
