To what extent is anxiety about the future turning today's contemporary literature into something distinct from that of other epochs? In this analysis of current US narrative films and novels, the author rereads sociological and discourse-analytical literature on the topic of prevention from a cultural studies perspective, gaining new insights into the central categories of literary studies, such as plot, fiction, and narration.
