HarperCollins is proud to present our range of timeless literary classics.

It was, indeed, a tempestuous yet sternly beautiful night, and one wildly singular in its terror and its beauty.

Featuring Edgar Allan Poe's most terrifying, grotesque and haunting short stories, Tales of Mystery & Imagination is the ultimate anthology of the infamous author's macabre works. From the foreboding atmosphere of 'The Fall of the House of Usher' to the mysterious detective stories 'The Masque of the Red Death' and 'The Gold-Bug', Poe presents a chilling blend of Gothic themes, psychological depth and eerie atmosphere.

Vivid, evocative and timelessly suspenseful, Poe's short stories have inspired generations of readers and writers, and have left an unparalleled mark on the American Gothic genre.

Autorenportrait

Edgar Allan Poe was an American author, poet, editor and literary critic. A writer of fantastical, bizarre and sometimes disturbing short stories, he is best known for his tales of mystery and the macabre. He lived and worked in the first half of the nineteenth century and died a mysterious death, many believe caused by an overdose of drugs, at the age of 40 in 1849.
