Instead, housing commons are self-managed by residents. This book analyzes and compares legal approaches for organizing housing commons: Cooperatives, the German 'Mietshäusersyndikat' and community land trusts. Based on this analysis, the author proposes new laws for creating steward-owned housing cooperatives.

Noah Neitzel is a lawyer and academic. After studying in Hamburg and Paris, he completed his legal clerkship in Lüneburg, Speyer and Prague. As a doctoral candidate at the Free University of Berlin, he spent a year as a research fellow at Stanford Law School. After completing his thesis, he returned to Stanford to research a new legal form for steward-owned companies. He now conducts research and provides consulting services on corporate law and ESG compliance in Berlin.
